RUBBER CUSTOMIZATION & MOQ

Custom rubber parts.
Start with your drawing.

The shape you need. The material your application calls for. A production route that fits your order.

Specify gaskets, pads, washers and seals with custom dimensions, adhesive backing, color and packing. We review the drawing and material requirements together, then quote the tooling, order quantity and production route.

FORM / MATERIAL / FINISHDifferent specifications. Different production routes.

What determines the MOQ?

The process and material batch set the minimum order quantity. A custom shape cut from stock rubber can start with a small batch. A new mold, custom color or special compound adds tooling or material commitments.

Use the quantities below to plan your inquiry. Your quotation confirms the final MOQ, material specification and any setup charges.

SPECIFY THE PART

What can be customized?

Start with the features that affect fit and function. Add assembly and presentation requirements before quotation.

01

Shape & dimensions

Specify the outside profile, cutouts, holes, slots and corner radii. Mark the dimensions that control fit, including hole positions and sealing width.

02

Material & construction

Choose EPDM, NBR, neoprene, silicone or FKM, with solid or sponge construction where available. If the material is undecided, describe the working environment and how the part is installed.

03

Thickness & hardness

Use an available sheet thickness and hardness for a simpler first order. A nonstandard thickness or a new Shore A specification can require a dedicated material batch.

04

Color & compound

Stock colors keep material sourcing straightforward. For a custom color, send a Pantone or RAL reference and a physical reference where available. Color and hardness are specified together for compound review.

05

Adhesive & liner

Specify one-sided or double-sided adhesive, the mounting surface and the liner format. Include the exact adhesive grade when a brand or part number is required.

06

Identification & packing

Define part numbers, batch labels, counted bags or assembly kits. Include label artwork and packing quantities in the RFQ so they are priced with the part.

ORDER PLANNING

Custom rubber parts MOQ guide

There is no single minimum for every rubber part. Choose the row that matches your process or customization requirement.

Planning quantities per part specification. These are inquiry guidelines; the project quotation sets the MOQ.

Need a smaller order?

Send the actual quantity. Large gaskets and high-value materials can justify a smaller part count. Small orders can carry a minimum order charge to cover material preparation and setup.

KEEP THE FIRST ORDER PRACTICAL

Custom geometry.
Available material.

For a first fit check, start with an available grade, thickness and color. Cutting a different outline does not necessarily require making new rubber.

A 2 mm gasket cut from existing sheet stock and a 2.3 mm gasket made from a new sheet batch have different purchasing requirements—even when the finished parts look similar.

Reduce dedicated material purchases

Ask for the nearest available thickness or hardness if your design allows it. List acceptable alternatives in the drawing notes.

Separate samples from production

State the fit-check quantity, first production batch and expected repeat demand. Request price breaks at the quantities you plan to buy.

Confirm the design before tooling

Use the prototype to check fit. Confirm the drawing revision before committing to a cutting die or mold.

READY FOR YOUR ASSEMBLY

Specify the backing.
Define the delivery format.

Adhesive backing is part of the material construction. Tell us what the rubber will bond to, the operating conditions and whether the adhesive is for positioning or a lasting bond.

Adhesive
One-sided or double-sided; acrylic, rubber-based or silicone PSA for compatibility review. Include an exact grade when specified.
Liner & handling
Loose parts, kiss-cut sheets or rolls. Specify peel tabs, part spacing and the number of parts per sheet when these affect assembly.
Packing & identification
Bulk packs, counted bags, individual bags or kits. Include part numbers, drawing revisions, batch labels and barcode requirements.

A designated adhesive can require a full roll purchase. Its usable area and the part layout affect the MOQ.

BEYOND FLAT CUT PARTS

Different shapes need different routes.

Molding and extrusion have their own tooling and material requirements. Include the full geometry so they can be quoted correctly.

Three-dimensional rubber parts

Grommets, plugs, bellows and seals with formed lips need a molding review. Send a STEP model, a dimensioned drawing and the features that control fit.

Continuous profiles

For D-sections, P-sections, U-channels and hollow seals, specify the cross-section, cut length and total meters. A new profile adds extrusion tooling.

Specified material performance

Include the exact performance standard and documentation required. Confirm the selected compound and color against that requirement before production.

BEFORE YOU ORDER

Customization & MOQ questions

What is the minimum order quantity for custom rubber parts?

MOQ depends on the production route and the material batch. Use 10 pieces as a planning quantity for CNC knife or waterjet prototypes, 50 for custom shapes in stock rubber, and 100–300 for die-cut parts. Custom colors and compounds usually need larger batches. CutPart confirms the order quantity in the project quotation.

Can I request fewer parts than the planning quantity?

Yes. Send the quantity you actually need, including one-off requirements for large or high-value parts. We review material availability and setup cost before confirming whether the smaller order is practical. A minimum order charge can apply.

Does a custom shape require a mold?

A flat profile can be cut from sheet rubber. CNC knife or waterjet cutting avoids a dedicated cutting die, while die cutting uses a tool for repeated profiles. Three-dimensional features such as lips, bosses and changing wall thickness require a separate molding review.

Can you match a color and a Shore A hardness?

Send the color reference, hardness target and acceptable variation together. An available grade is checked first. If a new compound is required, the order is governed by the compound batch as well as the finished-part quantity.

Why does adhesive backing affect the MOQ?

Adhesive is purchased and processed as sheet or roll material. A specified grade, double-sided construction or kiss-cut layout changes the amount that must be purchased and laminated. Part count alone does not describe that material requirement.

What files do you need to quote a custom rubber part?

Send a dimensioned PDF with DXF or DWG geometry for a flat part, or a STEP file and drawing for a molded part. A dimensioned sketch or physical sample can also start the review. Include thickness, material if known, quantity, application and any critical tolerances.

Can I specify a tested or certified material?

Yes. Include the exact standard, grade and required documents in the RFQ. Documentation must match the selected compound and the scope of your application. A new color or formulation needs its own review; documentation for another grade does not automatically apply.
