Open-Cell vs Closed-Cell Foam
Cell structure changes how a gasket responds to air, moisture, compression and recovery. Select it around the intended joint function rather than the foam name alone.
DRAWING-BASED CUSTOM PARTS
Die-cut foam gaskets manufactured to drawings for sealing, cushioning, dust control, vibration isolation and enclosure applications.
Share your drawing, dimensions and application conditions for a material and manufacturing review tailored to the joint design.

Foam gaskets are cut from open-cell or closed-cell materials selected around ingress protection, compression force, temperature and chemical exposure. Their thickness and profile create a repeatable compressed barrier around an enclosure without machining rigid parts.
Foam conforms to uneven interfaces at relatively low clamp force, which makes it practical for thin panels and complex enclosures.
Typical values for reference only. Final material grade, tolerance and dimensional capability are confirmed after drawing review.

Practical points to include when selecting foam and preparing a drawing for review.
Cell structure changes how a gasket responds to air, moisture, compression and recovery. Select it around the intended joint function rather than the foam name alone.
Specify the available joint gap and closure load. The target compression should be reviewed with the chosen foam grade so the gasket is not simply crushed flat.
Compression response is grade specific. Share the required closure force, contact area and expected deflection when the assembly has a limited clamp load.
Density, recovery and long-term set should be evaluated together against service temperature, time under load and the required sealing or damping function.
Adhesive is normally used for installation retention, not as a substitute for the joint design. Include the mating surface, temperature and placement method in the RFQ.
Keep sufficient supporting material around apertures and narrow bridges. Critical dimensions, hole locations and unsupported features should be identified on the drawing.
Ingress performance depends on the selected foam grade, compression level, enclosure design, joint geometry and validation testing.
Do not assume an IP rating from the foam material alone.
Suitable construction depends on the enclosure design, closure force, selected foam grade and the actual environmental requirement.
Foam gaskets may not be the best choice for extremely high bolt load, very tight dimensional stability, aggressive chemical exposure or prolonged fluid immersion. Depending on the application, solid rubber, PTFE or silicone rubber may be more appropriate.

Closed-cell foam is generally selected for water and dust barriers; open-cell foam is better where air flow or very soft compression is desired.
The workable range depends on the grade, but a controlled partial compression is preferable to crushing the foam flat.
Yes. Die cutting can add holes, windows, mitres and registration features in the same operation.
No. Adhesive is used for installation retention; a clamped gasket can often seal without it.
Kiss-cut liner formats can be reviewed when the material, adhesive construction and placement method are defined.
Prototype and production routes are reviewed against the selected foam, profile, quantity and project requirements.
PDF, DXF, DWG, STEP, STP, IGES, dimensioned sketches and clear reference images can be used for an initial review.
Yes. Share the application, joint gap, compression conditions, environment and any mounting requirement for a focused material review.
Delivery format is reviewed around the material construction, part geometry, liner requirement and assembly workflow.
Yes. CAD files, PDFs, dimensioned sketches and clear reference images can be reviewed for a custom quotation.
